Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle loves the pairing of cosy sweaters, big scarves, and colourful bags. See what she singled out from The Corner Shop Paddington for her latest post.

One of the best things about this in-between weather is the way you can rug up in your warm woollen pieces but not have to put on a coat or a jacket. I've been defiantly wearing sweaters and scarves and all of that good stuff recently instead of throwing on a coat - as I normally would - to take advantage of that beautiful midday sunshine that cuts through that windy winter chill. Some of these sweaters are too perfect for words. Christopher Esber's deconstructed marle sweater has toggles at the neck and the hem to adjust the size, a beautiful, stiff round-neck collar and big sleeves you can roll up for extra effect.

And don't get me started on the cosiest knitted pieces from Purl Harbour and Nathan Smith... Add a warm scarf and an even warmer knitted beanie and you won't need anything else for winter. Even though I love my jackets sometimes it's much more fun to piece together an outfit from woolen separates. Adding these brightly coloured bags by Catherine Tran (fresh into the store when I popped in!) was a last minute touch but so perfect. The lovely - and obliging! - Katrina clutched them with both hands and looked ready to take on anything winter threw her way.

I admire anyone who really enjoys fashion and isn’t afraid to express themselves. Women like Anna Piaggi and Diana Vreeland are great examples.

5 MBFWA minutes with... Susie Bubble

Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle grabbed a few MBFWA minutes with Susie Bubble before she had to run to Christopher Esber on day 4. Check out the interview below.

Susie Bubble's blog was the first blog I ever started reading. I'm definitely not the only person in the world who can say that about Susie, because her blog is incredibly influential and extremely important in the wider sphere of fashion dialogue. She has maintained her sense of playfulness in regards to fashion and her keenly intelligent yet accessible commentary still has that humorous bite. I first started reading her because her bio said she had started an Evelyn Waugh book club in uni and Brideshead Revisited is my favourite book. All this from the girl who wears Christopher Kane pool slides like it ain't no thang. Seriously. she is so, so cool.

What's been the highlight of the week so far? For me it's been seeing all the different show rooms. I don't think there's been one particular show highlight, although I did love Jenny Kee's presentation. Really beautiful and magnificent. I think it's amazing that Australian fashion has this historical perspective.

Did you know that she hasn't shown since 1981? Exactly. I've read her biography, I'm quite familiar with her work. I just love that she is a free spirit and really represents that Australian aesthetic.

What are your perceptions of that aesthetic as an outsider? I don't know. Obviously what she does isn't something that everything Australian designer does but her sense of colour, her influence from nature and climate, and just a slightly bohemian spirit. I think the bohemian thing is a really strong influence here, just because you guys live such a chilled lifestyle. You have opportunities to go to great spaces outdoors and do lots of different outdoor pursuits, and the climate, of course. I think it makes it really good for that bohemian thing.

Do you have any favourite Australian brands? I like Dion Lee, I like Josh Goot, Lover as well. Tonnes, tonnes of them actually. I like people who have come from Australian backgrounds but work out of international contexts like Richard Nicoll, Antipodium.

How do you think MBFWA compares to an international fashion week? Obviously it's a lot smaller and there isn't such a big diversity of designers. Definitely a very different aesthetic, much more commercial and wearable and sale-able aesthetic.

How have the talks with Portable gone? They've been really really good. I've done two now, one in Brisbane and one in Sydney and I'm going to Melbourne tomorrow. People have been really really nice and saying that they haven't heard this kind of discussion about blogging in a more serious tone and context before. We talked about the monetisation of it and everything. I'm really really happy with the way it has gone.

Anything else you're looking forward to doing in Australia before you go? Eating really, really good breakfasts in Melbourne.

Award winning British Artist Gemma Land has been working on her long awaited second collection of photographic print silk scarves. ‘Strawberry Hill’, is a series of monochrome and colour prints of London’s much-loved Strawberry Hill House, printed and hand finished in the UK. She has also been awarded the Wolf & Badger Graduate Design Award and also shortlisted for the Fashioning the Future Award this year.

Her first collection ‘Bourgeois Utopias’ launched by the Creative Archives at London and Paris fashion week, featured beautiful black and white images of English suburban houses. They were a great success being published in Russian Vogue, Dazed Digital, AnOther and the Huffington Post. They have been selling out on thecorner.com and Luisa Via Roma.

Land’s background is in Fine Art Photography graduating from the much-acclaimed MA at London College of Communication. Her style is unique, fusing her photographic art with the function of scarves; she likes to play with architecture and often uses symmetry to create impossible structures and hallucinogenic patterns. Her aesthetic lies between the romantic and the gothic, creating beautiful and yet often somewhat unsettling imagery.

5 MBFWA minutes with... Kaylene Milner

Kaylene Milner is the designer behind Sturm and Drang, one of the graduates from TAFE chosen to present at MBFWA as part of the Innovators show. Not only is she crazy talented with an incredible design aesthetic that is quite forceful and attention-grabbing without resorting to theatrics or gimmicks, she is also an award-winner. She recently won a scholarship to intern at Diane Von Furstenburg in New York for 3 months and she jets off next week. Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle caught up with Australian fashion design's next-big-thing to hear about all her plans for the future.

Congratulations on just showing your collection, and on your award! Thank you.

Tell us about the award. I'm still coming to terms with it. It's a $15 000 prize that is a global mentorship program. I'll be going to New York to intern with Diane Von Furstenburg for 3 months and then I can stay on there, if they'll have me, or go to Europe. The possibilities are endless.

What is the aesthetic of your label Sturm and Drang? I always say that it is feminine without being girly, strong without being masculine. Really just the sort of clothes that I would want to wear. Nothing overly fitted, nothing too short. Just great high-quality fabrics and techniques, almost couture-like techniques, which I just love that a garment can have so much care put into it. At this stage in my career it's relevant but maybe in the future I'll have to find some sort of happy balance.

You use a lot of natural textures like wool, leather and.. what was it on that dress, was it pony skin? Yes I used some pony skin and springbok in this range. 100% of my range is all natural fibres or regenerated. It's just nicer to wear. When it comes down to it I'd prefer to be wearing silks and linens than anything synthetic.

For me it's almost this sense of a primal, almost primitive, aesthetic. Well this collection definitely, it was influenced by tribal things and textures in the forrest. So it was kind of inevitable that that would happen.

Definitely! I got a real caveman vibe from it with all those different pieces of leather pieced together. Like that last dress with the inserts. That's kind of become the poster piece for the collection. The iconic piece of the range! *Laughs*

What was it like showing at fashion week? It all came and went in a bit of a blur. The exposure has been great, and even today I've made so many connections and spoken to so many people and just to be able to meet those people within the industry has been fantastic. I wouldn't have got that normally so I'm so grateful.

Do you have any advice for young aspiring designers? Your time at TAFE or university or even studying by yourself, you should always continue to research and continue to learn because that is the only way to stay relevant and fresh.

What are your hopes for the future of your label? I'm hoping to start producing a few things on a small scale. Maybe not straight away, I need to learn a few things about the production side of the industry first. But maybe in 5 years time or something I can start to build it up. I want to have my own label and be my own creative director.

What do you think is the intersection between social media and the fashion industry and design in particular? It's so inter-twined now, I don't know how anyone can escape it. It's nice to have that support from bloggers. That's who is getting our work out there the most.

Have you got a blog or anything yourself? I used to have a blog before I studied fashion with my best friend. It was really fun, she lived in Wollongong and I lived in Sydney so it was a way for us to talk to each other. We just talked about fashion and things we didn't understand and it was very naive and fun.

Don't worry, if you look back through the archives to my first post. It's quite hilarious. It's just about poetry and how poetry is related to fashion and how much I love poetry. *Laughs* We were just talking about Mondrian references in YSL and thinking we were really artistically relevant. And the worst outfit posts ever. *Laughs* We had an Ashish outfit challenge once, and I actually double-sided taped pom poms down the side of a black pair of pants, with a fur sweater and a Zebra jacket that did not match at all. It was very over the top. That was the highlight.

What are you looking forward to most about New York? There are so many people I want to meet when I'm over there I'm really excited. One of my personal favourite bloggers Andrew Mukamal, I'm going to meet up with him, which I think will be so much fun.

He's awesome. He's amazing. I love watching his videos because they remind me about why I got into fashion in the first place - because it seemed like a more fun option than anything else. But you get really caught up in the business side of things sometimes so it's so refreshing to see someone who has so much passion for it. He gives the impression of living in this fantastic, fun, fashion-driven world.

I was going to ask you what you're going to do next week to relax but you're going to New York in five days! I'm hoping the flight is kind of relaxing. Usually I would be so organised. I'm intending on making a new wardrobe before I leave because I have no clothes for a New York summer. I'm a winter girl. I made these shorts last night, so I have some silk shorts to wear to work. That's it!

5 MBFWA minutes with... Rachel Kara

Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle grabbed a second with photographer Rachel Kara in some MBFWA downtime. The previous day they had sped to the OPT whilst inhaling lamb sandwiches from Youeni in order to make it to the Oroton show on time, and then followed it with lime and mango chasers from gelatissimo. Rachel Kara is one classy lady, and incredible photographer and instagram-er (@rachelkara1) and just an all around mega-babe with an excellent blog called Sweet Bird of Youth. We love her romantic and bright-eyed perspective on fashion.

What have you been doing this week? Just been shooting fashion week, taking my photos, chillin' like a villain, eating some good snacks along the way. I love it, it's great!

What's been your favourite so far? I liked Romance - that's an obvious choice but the opening was very fun. I liked the clothes at the Innovators... Cynthia Thai, I think her name is, cutest little skirts and dresses and she herself is an adorable little pixie running around doing cute little things. Oh, and Jenny Kee this morning. That was good.

What are the three things that you have to have with you every fashion week? My camera. Sleep. And food. And water.

That's four things. Food and water is one. Sleep, sustenance and my camera. And flat shoes.

Do you prefer shooting runway or backstage? Backstage, definitely backstage, unless I can weasel my way onto the front row.

You don't shoot in the media pit? I don't do media pit. You kind of get pushed out by print media which is, you know, fair enough, but you get a bit of a different perspective from the side, where all the real people are at, or backstage.

What kind of stuff catches your eye backstage? Just the quiet moments, in amongst all the chaos going on. One of the models listening to her music, or if someone is ready earlier than others and they're just staring into space chilling I like that. If there's a big flood light any girl walking past that will get shot by me just because I like light. *laughs*

Who's your favourite model? I really loved a photo that I took of Madison Borbely. She's a cutie.

What's your standard fashion week outfit as a photographer? High-waisted jeans. Flats. Either lace-up suede boots or cons. And a jumper of some sort. I feel like if I'm not going to go all out and wear really cool stuff then I should just go the opposite and be a bit practical. Just blend in so you can't see me. *laughs* so that when people look at me they're like "fair enough she's here to work". That's me!

What are you going to do to relax after fashion week? Tomorrow night I'm going down the coast to my friend's caravan for a night.

What was Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle's favourite show from Day 3 of MBFWA?

3 sweet-as-apple-pie Alice McCall moments:

1. Those crazy, kooky, quirky, totally blingin' jewels. All the models had these glam-tastic earrings swinging from their ears as they walked, and paired with their cutesy plaited up-dos it was so sweet. And also how incredible is that necklace?

2. I loved Alice's pairing of pretty mirrored prints with sheer panelling. This sweet-heart neckline mini could have been too girly and too cute, but somehow that cloud of sheer across the shoulders made it seem more prim and proper. She repeated this sheer overlay throughout the collection, and Ruby Jean even wore a little printed shift dress under a crazy sheer peplum overlay that grazed the floor as she walked.

3. Caitlin Lomax In this wonderful beaded shift looking like she had walked straight out of The Great Gatsby or something. I had been snapping pictures of her backstage wondering who that gorgeous girl was with the cropped dark hair and not realising that it was Caitlin, just with a new do! What a transformation and she was probably my favourite girl on the runway that show.

What did guest blogger Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle think about the Magdalena Velevska show on day 2 of MBFWA?

Last year Magdalena Velevska was one of the runaway favourites of the week, so she had big expectations to fill, and she certainly met them and, in my opinion, exceeded them. A lot of designers are feeling athleticism and sporty shapes - probably because of the upcoming olympics - and this tends to make their collections much more wearable. This was the case with Magdalena Velevska, and I loved seeing all the beautiful boxy jackets, easy-to-wear shift dresses and drawstring waist trousers parade down the runway. It was really stunning to watch and a great close to Day 2 of MBFWA.

3 Magdalena moments:

1. The incredible setting at Sydney's Maritime Museum. Talk about original!

2. The Celine-esque shoes, with their simple ankle strap and classic court point.

3. The breathtaking finale.

What were Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle's favourite looks from Day 2 of MBFWA?

1. Zimmerman's floor length hooded dress. I loved how urban this look was! What a change from their trademark pretty florals and delicate styles.

2. A terrible picture, but the large-pleats red dress at Michael Lo Sordo. The most beautiful colour and a fantastic cut that managed to be both demure and sexy at the same time.

3. Magdalena Velevska's scalloped mini and matching boxy jacket. Kind of Stella McCartney-esque, which I loved, the perfect look for this coming summer.

What are your fashion week essentials? Not very many… Camera, spare lens, flash, iPhone of course, lip balm, flats in my handbag, that’s it!

What are you most looking forward to this week? To be honest it was probably Gary [Bigeni], which I’ve already seen today. I love his stuff. It’s simple but still fun, very wearable. Same thing for Christopher Esber. Very wearable and simple. I’m a big fan.

As a street-style photographer what do you look or in a girl during fashion week? To be honest during Fashion Week, because I’m taking photos in Sydney throughout the year, this week I always tend towards international delegates. Purely because it’s my only chance to get those shots.

So who are you looking forward to shooting? Natalie Joos. I did take her photo today already. Yasmin Sewell. Elin, of course, I would love to take a photo of her. Nothing too much, you know. Sometimes less is more in street style.

What is the thing you’re most looking forward to wearing during fashion week? My Romance Was Born bomber.

When you need to have a drink after fashion week where are you going to go? It’s not very classy, but realistically, The Cricketers.

What are you going to do next week when it’s all over? Work, edit photos, back to life.

No relaxing? A little bit. Eating, relaxing, hanging out with friends, less hours in the office. Hopefully!

Day one Fashion week... Photo diary

Yesterday the Belinda and Corner Shop team ran around in their carven bow pumps visiting their favorite Australian designers at Mercedes Benz fashion week. The sun was out and we spotted lots of FASH happy faces wearing amazing outfits. We're big fans of Nathan Smith's divinely soft cotton basics here at The Corner Shop, but we just may have a new contender for our favourite must have - this soft black leather dress that has just arrived in store!

It's a grey sky kind of morning. Hannah-Rose from Capture the Castle and The Corner Shop have you covered for winter essentials.

I can't tell a lie - autumn and winter are my favourite seasons. You can wear gorgeous things like cosy sweaters and big scarves and ankle boots, and you can wrap up and rug up and star warm in the best kind of threads. Summer is fun, and after day after day of grey skies it's true, wearing something easy breezy and going to a beach has it's charms. But there'll be no swaying me from my commitment to the colder seasons. If you catch me today running frantically around the city you'll notice that despite rain and grey skies and having to wear heaps of layers, I'll have a big smile on my face. I can't help it! I just love the cold.

It was the bow-backed suede shoes that first got me - whether as high-heeled pumps or flat slingbacks, there was something magical and poetic about that floppy, oversized twist that bloomed from the heel, whimsical and silly and tongue-in-cheek, the kind of thing a jeune parisienne might throw on with ripped jeans and a white shirt for a late night rendez-vous. Carven's aesthetic is definitely all about a bit of whimsical flirting - macaron-hued trousers or blazers, all sweetness and smiles, go just as well with heavy, buttery-soft leather jackets, lace dresses with peek-a-boo trains and wacky, eye-catching, look-at-me stripey prints and silk shirts. My wardrobe consists mostly of oversized tee shirts and baggy pants, but I have always felt that all girls like to have a little bit of something feminine hiding in the depths of their closet. That's why my relationship with Carven has been love at first sight. I only own one thing so far - those honey-coloured bow flats were too pretty to turn down - but it's more than enough to inject some delicacy into my daily routine. Like all good things sweet - chocolate eclairs, strawberry tarts and hot pink silk dresses with pleated skirts - a little bit goes a very, very long way. My love story with Carven is definitely far from over...
