It was the bow-backed suede shoes that first got me - whether as high-heeled pumps or flat slingbacks, there was something magical and poetic about that floppy, oversized twist that bloomed from the heel, whimsical and silly and tongue-in-cheek, the kind of thing a jeune parisienne might throw on with ripped jeans and a white shirt for a late night rendez-vous. Carven's aesthetic is definitely all about a bit of whimsical flirting - macaron-hued trousers or blazers, all sweetness and smiles, go just as well with heavy, buttery-soft leather jackets, lace dresses with peek-a-boo trains and wacky, eye-catching, look-at-me stripey prints and silk shirts.
